HEART PROGRAM ( Human Equine Assisted Reality Therapy)
The HEART program is unique to its foundation. It teaches children of all ages to interact safely with horses. The equine relationship exposes them to the love, trust, respect, and compassion inherent in the herd dynamics and vital to the herd's survival. Those very qualities are essential to successful human relationships, especially with parents and friends.
Most humans need at least 18 years of healthy parenting to learn the appropriate skills, which are not taught in school. cannot be bought, and are not usually learned from books. Horses can heal our emotional wounds. They model the very qualities essential to meaningful and satisfying human relationships.
We create a safe environment in which the children can be open and honest, ask difficult questions and have no fear of any form of punishment, being judged or rejected.
Working with horses helps the children develop critical social-emotional skills:
*Self awareness is the ability to recognize your emotions and understand the links between emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
*Self management is the ability to regulate emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
*Social awareness is the ability to take other's perspectives and demonstrate empathy.
*Relationship skills are the ability to build and maintain healthy relationships.
*Responsible decision making is the ability to make good choices about your behaviour and interactions with others.
Short term: to improve the children's behaviour step by step. To observe these behavioural changes at school, home and in the community on a weekly basis.
Immediate: Decrease the number of reported incidents at school by at least 50% by instilling behavioural strategies.
Long term: To be able to observe in a tangible way that the children's social behaviour and confidence has improved to such a level they can archieve their goals and become good reliable citizens.
Using suitable premises and animals, the foundation engages the services of suitable qualified persons to provide the necesarry support to young people referred from the community.
We work very closely with the local schools, ministry of education, etc.
