Welcome to Pongarosa Equestrian Centre!

With over 40 years of experience in the equestrian world, I have dedicated my life to understanding, training, and caring for horses . My journey began at a young age ( back in the Netherlands) and this passion led to the establishment of  Pongarosa Equestrian Centre in 1999. Our family owned business, spanning 38 acres of picturesque countryside, offers a serene and inspiring environment for both riders and horses.

At Pongarosa , we pride ourselves on providing top-notch facilities, including a low cross country course, showjumping rings ( on grass) , a dressage arena ( 20x60 pumice/sand) , and an obstacle course ( working equitation)

Our centre is not only a place for training and riding but also a vibrant community hub where we host a variety of events throughout the season.

These events include ribbon days, inhand days, obstacle days, ODE ( one day event) , showx, dressage days and pole clinics, all designed to foster camaraderie among equestrians of all levels.

My expertise extends beyond traditional coaching and training. As an equine therapist and herbalist, I incorporate holistic approaches to horse care and rehabilitation.

One of the cornerstone programs at Pongarosa is the HEART program. ( Human Equine Assisted Reality Therapy) This innovative equine therapy program emphasizes the profound connection between humans and horses. Unlike traditional riding sessions, HEART is a ground based experience that involves spending time with the horse or horses, learning about others and oneself, without any actual riding. No horse experience is necessary to participate.

Through HEART participants engage in experiential learning that promotes emotional intelligence, builds confidence, and fosters a deeper understanding of self and others.

The program includes activities that enhance experiential thinking, problem solving skills, and emotional and spiritual well being. Participants experience the power and influence of working with a 500 kgs horse in a safe , supportive space, leading to improved self esteem, new body aweness, and the ability to successfully overcome fears.

The other program we run is through South Coast Psychology. This is for ACC clients and is a 2 hours a week over 7 weeks program. Run by an Equine behaviourist and a councellor.

Each session the client will learn about and explore a topic, with the horses. This is a group program so there can be up to 8 people working with horses at a time.

At Pongarosa Equestrian Centre , our mission is to create a nurturing and empowering environment where both horses and humans can thrive. We invite you to join us and experience the magic of the human-horse connection.
